A website to facilitate the easy search and exploitation of business and investment opportunities in Ghana has been launched in Accra.
The site (www.ghanaopportunity.com) is billed to provide easy access to credible information that is essential for more than 2 million web links and will initiate Ghana into a hub of investment in the Sub-region.
Ghana Opportunity Network is a trail blazing initiative that will provide millions of non-resident Ghanaians and others with information and links on a wide range of business opportunities in Ghana.
The online business solution is an initiative of Databank and Nubuke Foundations for both resident and non-resident Ghanaians to have reliable and convenient way of accessing information about Ghana.
A not for profit Foundation, GoNET provides the most credible single source web based information and links to individuals and organisations to meet the needs of the large number of patrons that will access the site.
In addition to information and links, GoNET will add value to information sought by providing advisory services on request, officials of the organisation insist.
Guest speaker Prince Kofi Amoabeng noted that information is a vital element to the success of every business establishment.
The 2006 Marketing Man of the Year, who gave a run down on the exploits of Unique Trust Financial Services said the success of the company thrived so much on the availability of market information. This he said has propelled Unique Trust to the top of financial service providers.
Tourism and Diasporan Relations Minister, Asamoah Boateng, launching the site Tuesday lauded the operators for coming out with an easy way of doing business in Ghana through the internet.
He was particularly happy about how businesses have flourished lately in the country, attributing it to the investment friendly environment the Kufuor administration has provided.
The move to provide the most credible single web-based source of information and links to individuals and organisations is expected to boost business opportunities in the country as thousands of Ghanaians in the Diaspora and foreigners alike have expressed interest in investing in the Ghanaian economy but are frustrated in doing so due to bureaucratic processes.
GoNET gives information about Databank Homecoming Account which enables investors to enjoy capital gains or earn interest income.
The capital gains mainly result from the appreciation in the price of shares or units of underlying instruments like the Epack/shares while interest income is the return made on income securities/funds (Mfund, T-bills and bonds).
According to statistics, returns on funds under Databank managed mutual fund management have averaged approximately 50% per year during the last decade. It is, however, instructive to note that due to the more stable nature of Ghana's economy, current returns on investments have been more realistic.
Analysts say there are thousands of investment opportunities in Ghana which should be strategically tapped to propel the country to achieve its aim of attaining middle income status by 2015.
GoNET also provides information about how to acquire property in Ghana; advisory services; professional and social networks; news updates; volunteer work and opportunities for charity; tips about visiting Ghana, and a host of others.
According to the managers of the non-profit organisation, GoNET will provide businesses in Ghana a unique opportunity for making their products and services known and available to millions of Ghanaians, especially those in the Diaspora.
It requires that businesses register with the Foundation in order to have their products and services advertised, making it easy for their potential clients to reach them.
