THE GOVERNMENT of Japan has granted Ghana 410 million Yen orUS$3.7 million to finance the second phase of the Rural Electrification project in the country.
According to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and NEPAD, Hon. Akwasi Osei-Adjei, the project would be concentrated in the Upper Denkyire District in the Central region and 36,000 residents would benefit more from the District.
The MP pointed out that, Japan's cooperation with Ghana in the energy sector started in 1989, with these being the fifth.
The MP noted that the decision to finance the projects would coincide with the unrelenting effort of the Government of Ghana to find a lasting solution to the challenges in the energy crisis.
The Charge' d'Affaires of the Embassy of Japan to Ghana, Mr. Yutaka Nakamura signed on behalf of the government of Japan, and stated that the Japanese Government appreciated the efforts being made by the Government of Ghana to extend rural electrification.
He cautioned that regular checks and maintenance of the equipment should be paramount on the Government's programme to sustain efficient supply of electricity.
