THE MINISTER for Lands, Forestry and Mines, Professor Dominic Fobih has indicated that effective utilization of land resources available to the country could help move the nation's economy forward.
He has therefore advised various Ministries to collaborate effectively with the Lands Commission and liaise with each other on the use and acquisition of lands to create an enabling environment for private sector growth to propel nation to a middle level income status.
Prof. Fobih noted that the "Golden Age of Business" declared by the Kufuor-led administration in 2001 "cannot be realised if bottlenecks associated with the administration of cherished resources are not removed."
He said this at the inauguration of the Central Regional Lands Commission at the Regional Co-ordinating Council (RCC) in Cape Coast.
The Minister, who is also the Member of Parliament for Assin South District in the Central Region, explained that since land is a peculiar asset that must be judiciously utilised to strengthen a nation economically, every government needed to make it a priority to address problems associated with its ownership coupled with bureaucratic procedures of land recording to foster development in the country.
He urged the Members of the Regional Lands Commission to maintain fair a balance in addressing land and chieftaincy disputes that was gradually becoming rampant in the Region.
The Central Regional Minister, Hon. Nana Ato Arthur, commended the Ministry for inaugurating the Regional Lands Commission saying it will go a long way to address issues relating to land encroachment to facilitate demolishing of structures sited on waterways and government properties.
He urged Members of the Commission to work in accordance with the land provision as enshrined in Article 267 Clause three (3) of the 1992 Constitution to help address the issue of land management in the region and country in general.
