The agreement was reached at a Ghana-Zimbabwe Trade, Tourism and Investment Promotion Seminar and Zimbabwe Exporters' Exhibition held in Ghana two weeks ago.Chaired by Mr Tony Oteng Gyasi, vice-president of the Association of Ghana Industries, the seminar brought together over 70 participants drawn from the Ministry of Industry and International Trade, private sector, the Development and Presidential Special Initiatives of Ghana, the diplomatic corps and international organisations, among others.
Delivering his keynote address, Deputy Minister of Industry and International Trade Mr Phineas Chihota highlighted the investment opportunities that exist in Zimbabwe in the mining, transport, agriculture, energy, telecommunications and tourism sectors.
He also took the opportunity to invite Ghanaian investors to enter into joint venture partnerships with the private sector.
Speaking at the same occasion, Ghanaian Deputy Minister of Trade Industry, Private Sector Development and Presidential Special Initiatives (SMEs) Ms Gifty Ohene Konadu urged the business communities from both countries to establish appropriate networks to boost the entry of goods and services into their respective regional markets in the Southern African Development Community and Economic Community of West African States.
She also called upon the business community to brace themselves for stiff competition in the global arena if they were to survive.
The seminar was hosted by the Zimbabwean embassy in Ghana in conjunction with the Ghana-Zimbabwe Business Forum.
Lucrative deals were clinched at the seminar with Ghanaian companies ordering Zimbabwean tea, fruit juices and wines while Zimbabwean firms ordered salt, fish, textile products and pharmaceuticals.
Throughout the deliberations, the Zimbabwean delegation - headed by Mr Chihota - aggressively marketed Zimbabwe as a safe tourist, trade and investment destination.
