Veep Calls For More Trade Between Ghana, Thailand

The Vice-President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, has called for the expansion of trade and investment between Thailand and Ghana.
Reacting to a statement by the visiting Thai Deputy Minister of Commerce, Mrs Oranuji Osatananda, that the change of government in that country last year did affect trade policies and co-operation with Ghana, the Vice-President said there were more business opportunities in Ghana which could be taken advantage of.
Alhaji Mahama made the call during a courtesy call on him by a 10-member delegation from Thailand, led by the Deputy Minister, at the Castle, Osu, in Accra.
The delegation, according to the Thai Deputy Minister, was in the country to explore trade and investment avenues and to consolidate relations between the two countries.
The Vice-President reiterated that trade and investment were key to both countries and so efforts should be stepped up to promote the partnership.
He announced that Ghana was going to establish a trade centre in Bangkok, the Thai capital, to promote Ghanaian products and businesses in that country.
The Vice-President gave the assurance that Thai investment in Ghana would be protected and boosted.
He described business relations between Ghana and Thailand as a “win/win” situation.
Mrs Osatananda said Thailand had focused on Ghana as its business headquarters for the West African sub-region, saying that a Thai trade office had been established in Accra to facilitate business and trade in Ghana.
She identified mineral resources, agriculture, wood products and food processing as areas of interest to Thailand.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Mr Robert Ahomka-Lindsay, said trade policies and Ghanaian products had  been designed to attract Asian businesses and satisfy Asian market requirements.
